⚠️ **THE SOCIAL MEDIA BAN ISN’T WORKING… SO WHY DOUBLE THE FINES?** ⚠️
Research has suggested that **more than 80% of under-16s were still using social media** just months after Australia’s under-16 social media restrictions came into effect.
Despite that, the Federal Government is proposing to **double the maximum penalties** for social media companies—from **$49.5 million to almost $100 million**.
The proposed reforms would also expand the powers of the eSafety Commissioner to obtain information and documents from social media companies and related service providers.
So here’s the question…
If the current laws aren’t achieving the intended outcome…
Will even bigger fines solve the problem?
Or should governments be focusing more on education, parental involvement and practical solutions instead?
In this short video, Mike Palmer examines the latest proposal, the research behind it, and the broader questions it raises about online regulation in Australia.
👇 **What do you think?**
If the current social media ban isn’t producing the intended results, what should happen next?
