It wasn’t necessarily the hardest day in rehab, but the mandatory group outings — being put on a bus with everyone else and taken somewhere like a bowling alley or go-kart track, with no real way to hide or pretend you weren’t all there for the same reason.
From there, the conversation opens into something much bigger. Russell reflects on his belief that everyone is either moving toward God or away from Him, and that the people who hit an obvious, dramatic rock bottom aren’t necessarily more broken than those who are quietly trapped by more socially acceptable addictions, distractions, and false idols.
