The audio was quite a mess, and I spent a good 20 hours repairing it. The left side channel was much more noisy and poorer generally, so I used the right channel for both sides. Even still, it was awash in hiss, hum, and general distortion. First I went over the sound leveling it out (it went up and down in volume suddenly and shockingly). Then I applied digital noise reduction, and put it through Demucs to remove many errant sounds like pops, suddenly blasts of acute distortion and the like. Then, did a second noise reduction to knock out the remainder of noise. Then with experimental tricks, managed to restore the treble to fill out Noam’s speaking voice, and did a general EQing. Then!! I finally went over the sound second by second, removing or reducing every audio flaw i could: coughs, pops, clicks, etc. The speech turned out better than the Q&A (particularly the later part), but altogether it sounds a lot better with 60 decibels of dynamic range.
