In September 2023, a convoy of three vehicles carrying contractors and a senior base official arrived at a redacted U.S. government test site in the western United States for a LiDAR data acquisition mission under restricted airspace. While driving east that morning, all three witnesses independently observed a large, ellipsoid or “cigar-shaped” bronze metallic object hovering near the tree line at approximately 500 to 3,000 feet altitude. The object disappeared instantaneously after five to ten seconds. Three formal FBI 302 interviews were conducted. The lead witness was described as a senior federal official with over 15 years of experience identifying U.S. military aircraft and had personally closed the airspace that morning. Eight months later, on April 30, 2024, the FBI Laboratory produced a composite sketch overlay placed on the actual site photograph, rendering the encounter as official evidentiary material. The facility’s main gate reportedly malfunctioned exclusively on the morning of the sighting.

The lead witness was described as a senior official at the facility with 15 or more years of experience working with U.S. military aircraft and drones. She had personally restricted the airspace that morning for the LiDAR mission — meaning she was uniquely positioned to know exactly what aircraft were and were not authorized to be in that space.
