At 28, Dr. Eric Berg says his health had reached a breaking point. He describes dealing with arthritis, digestive problems, pre-diabetes, kidney stones and osteoporosis while living largely on junk food. Eventually, he began changing what he ate, cutting back on carbohydrates and focusing more heavily on protein.
What began as an attempt to pull himself out of poor health eventually became an obsession with understanding nutrition and the body — something Dr. Berg says he has continued studying for decades. He also reflects on his old eating habits, including constant snacking and nightly ice cream, and how difficult it was for him to stop once he started.
Now 61, Dr. Berg says he lives a very healthy lifestyle and believes that if he had never become sick in the first place, he probably wouldn’t be where he is today.
